DIVORCE MEDIATION WORKS

I am a certified divorce mediator having been certified by the National Center for Mediation Education and by the Bucks County Bar Association. Although I have an active Bucks County, Pennsylvania divorce practice, my mediation practice has gradually increased over time from just a few cases a year to the present situation whereby I am handling approximately 4 to 5 ongoing mediations at one time.

In mediation, a neutral third party meets with separating or divorcing couples for a series of discussions, helping them to resolve various issues relating to their separation and divorce. The mediator does not make decisions for the parties. The mediator’s job is to keep the parties on task and on target; to break the issues down into smaller parts; to suggest alternatives which the parties may not have considered; and to gradually assist the parties in moving towards mutually beneficial decisions.

Mediation in my office is successful approximately 80% of the time. If successful, the net result is a marital settlement agreement, and an uncontested no-fault divorce. The process can literally save the parties tens of thousands of dollars and months if not years of acrimonious divorce litigation. Most importantly, the level of cooperation created by a successful mediation assists in the healing process and avoids the tearing apart of families, which problems could otherwise occur as a result of contentious divorce litigation.
